TapTales is a prototype story player. This page describes its current behavior, updated 18 October 2026.

What is saved

We log book-link opens to a Google Sheet through Google Apps Script: book ID, link source (NFC, QR, or direct), a random browser device ID, timestamp, timezone, language, estimated operating system/device type, approximate IP-derived city/state/country, and test/environment labels.

This is pseudonymous visit information, not proof of a person or physical scan. We do not ask for names, emails, microphone recordings, or GPS permission. GeoJS and, when needed, IPWhois receive IP-location lookup requests; our sheet does not store the raw IP returned by those services.

Rewards on this device

Story days, the one-star-per-day reward, daily listening progress and any waiting gift, unlocked themes, the admin-test preference, and the device ID are stored in browser localStorage. Rewards are not sent to the spreadsheet. Clearing browser data removes them; another browser/device has a separate record.

External services

Cloudflare serves the site and audio. Google receives analytics requests. The YouTube player loads only when you choose Watch; it uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed domain. YouTube may process playback/device information and show its own content. You can use the audio option without loading YouTube.

Prototype data

The prototype currently has no automated retention/deletion schedule or self-service account controls. Do not enter personal information. To raise a concern, contact the person who supplied your book. This notice describes implementation and does not claim legal certification.
